Permanent Marker Stain Removal

Permanent Marker Stain Removal from Upholstery

If you have kids, chances are, marker and/or permanent marker may end up on your upholstery. If you need remove marker from your favorite couch or chair, vacuum the area to remove loose dirt or dust. You can try using rubbing alcohol or a hairspray (non oily variety)as your stain removing agent. Because you are working on upholstery, be very careful not to soak the fabric. Doing so may soak the stuffing and you may end up with both a stain and mildew. Apply small amounts at a time and blot carefully between applications.

Remember, it is not called "permanent" marker for no reason. Depending on how fresh the stain is, this method may not remove the stain completely.

Thank you so much for the advice!

My 2 yr old son just wrote on my brand new flat monitor computer screen -- with a permanent marker. I turned on the computer to see the damage, and sure enough there was a big black mark right across the middle of the screen! I franctically rubbed it right away, and of course it didn't come out. I right away tried to find info on how to remove a permanent mark, and came across this site. I took the advice, and wiped the mark with rubbing alcohol -- it came off right away!!

You've saved my monitor screen -- thanks for the great info.

I would like to add that my little girl got into my office and wrote all over a Chase Lounge I have for my clients! Not to mention it's the first place my husband and I ever kissed and where he proposed to me! I immediately got online and you were the first site to show up! I tried the alcohol and now you can see only a tiny hint of the damage. No one but me and my husband can see it! Thank you sooo much!!
